Benicia’s history is intriguing and it’s past is filled with fascinating people, places and events of local, state(the first state capitol 1853-1854) and national significance. Benicia also features a robust calendar of community events like the widely attended Thursday Farmers Market, the Peddlers Fair, Arts and Crafts Fair, Downtown Holiday Open House and Tree Lighting, Fourth of July Parade down 1st St, Yacht Races and opening day on the Straight and many other events events.
Benicia is divided into 4 areas and an industrial park- East Side (east of 1st St), West Side (west of 1st St), Southampton (north of 780 Fwy) and a newer sub-division of Southampton called Waters End (north of Rose Dr). Most of the town’s older homes are in the West and East side areas of Benicia. Many of these older homes have been remodeled or updated (some homes date back to the turn of the late 1800’s early 1900’s.
